Η λέξη derbenterissa (ντερμπεντέρισσσα) στα ελληνικά σημαίνει λεβέντισσα και ανοιχτόκαρδη. Προέρχεται από τη Τούρκικη λέξη derbeder η οποία σημαίνει αλήτης και τυχοδιώκτης. Η ακριβής σημασία της λέξης στα τουρκικά είναι αυτός που ζει άστατη ζωή.
Η λέξη derbeder προέρχεται με την σειρά της από τη μετάφραση در به در (dar ba dar) στα περσικά, που σημαίνει πόρτα με πόρτα. Η κυριολεκτική έννοια της λέξης είναι αυτός που περιφέρεται πόρτα-πόρτα, δηλαδή ο άστεγος, ο ζητιάνος.
The word derbenterissa (ντερμπεντέρισσα) in Greek means fine fellow (can’t be translated effectively) and open-hearted. It comes from the Turkish word derbeder which means tramp and adventurer. The exact meaning of the word in Turkish is one who lives a restless life.
The word derbeder is in turn derived from the Persian translation of در به در (dar ba dar), which means door to door. The literal meaning of the word is one who wanders from door to door, i.e. the homeless person, the beggar.

Gertrude Mingiedi lives at the immigration detention center of Corinth since three years. She comes from Congo. The women sitting are of Asia Minor origin and are part of the Asia Minor Shelter of Corinth in Synoikismos of Corinth.
The ancestors of these women were immigrants as well, came to an unknown place where being accepted in the local community was not always easy. These women try to preserve the memories of their ancestors and the Unforgettable Homelands, to preserve and promote the living values and traditions of Asia Minor. Here they face a new immigrant, a woman I paid 50 € to dance in front of them. Gertrude dances, with no shame! It is the shame of all who bring people in these circumstances, who perform in front of the Other in order to survive and in the meanwhile to be part of an ‘art project’.
