Bridging Tradition and Technology: A Vision for Synoikismos, Corinth

Synoikismos, a historic neighbourhood in Corinth, Greece, serves as a living testament to the Asia Minor refugees who settled there in the 1920s. These communities demonstrated remarkable resilience, carrying with them the vibrant traditions of their homeland, including music, dance, storytelling, and the delicate craft of embroidery, which became a valued expression of their identity. Their legacy is woven into the fabric of Synoikismos in a way that is both indelible and reflective of a profound connection to their roots and a spirit of creativity that continues to inspire.

The project builds upon this rich heritage by employing artificial intelligence to generate digital representations of intricate traditional embroidery patterns from Asia Minor. The designs, inspired by the vibrant motifs, colours, and stories brought by the refugees, reimagine their artistry in a contemporary context. The AI-generated images are then projected onto the walls of the houses in Synoikismos, transforming the neighbourhood into an open-air gallery. This installation celebrates the cultural legacy of the Asia Minor people and revitalises their historic surroundings, creating a compelling dialogue between tradition and innovation.
