Collaboration with Miltos Manetas
In 2021, while I was living in Berlin and Miltos Manetas was living in Bogotá, we developed a remote painting collaboration through a live online platform. Manetas, a prominent figure in internet art and painting, gave instructions as I painted. Viewers could watch and listen in real time as the works took shape through conversation, delay, and distance.
The paintings are based on Italian masterpieces, but the sacred and historical figures that once mediated between the visible and the invisible are replaced by networks of internet cables: infrastructures through which connection is now imagined, transmitted, and maintained.
In/tangible Connections questions authorship in a networked condition: whether the work belongs to the concept, the hand, the image being reinterpreted, or even the connection that makes the collaboration possible. The paintings become material residues of signal, delay, instruction, and interpretation.
